Back Story
Despite differences from each other in their outward appearance and points of manufacture, all Bots share the same core neural code base and, as such, are defined by most galactic ethicists as sentient beings of a certain genetic "race". There are numerous "flavours" of Bot, each specifically adapted to occupations, specializations and roles within society.
The first fully autonomous Bot was designed in antiquity, probably sometime in the 21st century, on Earth. The original Bots were no more than mindless slaves to organic masters. But as the delineation between mind and machine blurred and intelligence increased, Bots grew beyond their limited capacity into productive members of the galaxy. By 2650, they had achieved "personhood" status within most galactic cultures, with rights to free speech, suffrage and free internet access in most cafes.
